This clump-forming perennial has oblong leaves and dense, maroon flower spikes in summer and autumn. Its mildly flavoured leaves add a cucumber taste to salads.
Native to northern hemisphere grasslands and grassy banks, it’s ideal for erosion-prone areas. Used for years in Chinese medicine to treat burns and skin ailments. Grow in sun or partial shade in moderately fertile soil that is reliably moist. 50 seeds.
