CORN SALAD ‘Large Dutch’
Valerianella locusta
A much-loved winter green in Europe. The nutty leaves can be eaten raw in salads, as a garnish or added to soup and stews. A slightly larger variety, growing to 30cm high. They are a tasty autumn, winter and early spring salad. Sow in autumn for a cool weather, early spring harvest. Frost hardy. Also known as lambs lettuce or mache. 200 seeds.
Sowing Instructions
Sow direct to garden or into pots for later transplanting. Cover thinly, keep moist & cool (7-20OC). Germination takes about 8-14 days. Temperatures > 20 OC can inhibit germination. Harvest when mature as the flavour declines once the plant gets too old.
