Onion ‘Red Tropea Long’
Allium cepa
A torpedo shaped red onion. This Italian heirloom produces mild flavoured, elongated bulbs up to 15 cm in length. Can be used raw in salads, stir-fried, caramelised or roasted. A mighty fine allrounder!! The medium-large bulbs have red skin and a rosy flesh. Stores for 3-4 months in a cool, stable environment. 250 seeds.
Sowing Instructions
Prefers full sun in rich, well-drained soil. Sow direct to garden or into pots to transplant later. Keep moist, but take care not to over-fertilize or waterlog. Onions grow tops first and bulbs later. Harvest after tops dry off (usually February/March), hang in a cool, dry place.
